Carpet installation for Melbourne homes
New carpet for bedrooms, stairs and living spaces, whether you are only replacing the carpet or it is one part of a bigger renovation. We help you match the fibre and underlay to the room, then take care of the seams, trims and edges.
Why people still choose carpet
Carpet is warm underfoot on a Melbourne winter morning, it softens footsteps between floors, and it takes the echo out of a room. For bedrooms, upstairs areas and stairs, those are practical reasons, not just comfort.
A carpet only feels and wears the way it should when the fibre suits how the room is used and the underlay suits the carpet. We talk that through with you before you order, then plan the layout so seams sit where they are least noticeable and doorways finish cleanly against the next floor.
A carpet job can be as simple as one bedroom or a flight of stairs. You don’t need to be renovating anything else to book us.
Rooms we carpet
Bedrooms and walk-in robes
The most common place for carpet, where warmth and quiet matter more than wipe-clean surfaces.
Stairs and landings
Carpeted stairs are quieter and softer to walk on. Each tread is fitted and fixed individually, so stair carpeting is planned and quoted separately to flat areas.
Rumpus, media and family rooms
Spaces where people sit on the floor, children play and sound needs softening.
Carpet as part of a larger renovation
When other rooms are getting timber floors or tiles, we plan where each floor ends so the transitions line up.
Wool, nylon or polyester?
The fibre sets how a carpet feels, how it resists stains and how well it springs back from foot traffic. Pile style and density matter too, but fibre is the place to start.
Wool
A natural fibre that feels soft, resists crushing and is naturally slow to catch fire. It generally costs more and needs prompt attention to spills. Wool blends mix it with a synthetic for extra durability.
Nylon
A strong, resilient synthetic that holds up well on stairs and in hallways. Solution-dyed nylon has the colour through the fibre, which helps it resist fading and staining.
Polyester
Soft and often more affordable, with good stain resistance. It suits lower-traffic rooms such as bedrooms better than busy hallways or stairs.
The parts of a carpet job you won’t see
Underlay
Underlay cushions the carpet, adds warmth and sound insulation, and takes some of the wear off the backing. It needs to match the carpet: a thick, soft underlay under a carpet that calls for a firm one can shorten its life. Your carpet supplier’s recommendation is a good guide.
Stretching and seams
Carpet is stretched over gripper strips around the edge of the room so it stays tight and flat. Where two pieces meet, the seam is placed away from main walkways and doorways wherever the room allows.
Stair styles
A waterfall finish runs the carpet straight down from the edge of each tread. A wrapped or bullnose finish folds it tightly around the nosing and under it for a tailored look. Your stair shape often decides which works best.
How carpet installation works with us
Measure and plan the layout
We measure each room and the stairs, and work out roll direction and seam positions so less carpet is wasted.
Choose carpet and underlay
We help you narrow the fibre, colour and pile, and pair it with a suitable underlay before we confirm your quote.
Prepare the floor
Old carpet, underlay and grippers are removed where included, and the subfloor is checked and cleaned.
Lay, stretch and trim
Underlay and carpet go down, the carpet is stretched and trimmed, and door trims are fitted where it meets another floor.
Carpet installation FAQs
Is wool or nylon carpet better?
Neither is better everywhere. Wool feels softer and resists crushing, while nylon is very durable and often the practical choice for stairs, hallways and homes with children or pets. The right answer depends on the room and your budget.
How much difference does underlay make?
A lot. Good underlay makes carpet feel more comfortable, improves warmth and sound insulation, and helps the carpet last. It should suit the carpet type, so check the carpet maker’s recommendation.
Can you carpet stairs?
Yes. Stairs can be finished in a waterfall style, where the carpet drops straight from each tread, or wrapped around the nosing for a tailored look. Stairs are measured and priced separately to flat areas.
Do you install carpet on its own, without a renovation?
Yes. We install carpet as a standalone job, from a single room or staircase to a whole house. If other rooms are being renovated, the carpet can be planned as part of that project instead.
How long does carpet installation take?
It depends on the floor area, the number of stairs, whether old flooring needs to come up and how much furniture needs moving. We give you an expected timeframe with your quote.
Do I need to move furniture and remove the old carpet?
Let us know what is in the rooms when you request a quote. We will confirm in writing who handles furniture, removal of old carpet and underlay, and disposal.
