Who you would be working with

Melbourne renovation projects, managed by one team

Our team brings 30 years of industry experience to every project, and we have been in business as Pacific Edge Homes for 10 years.

On a renovation project, one team looks after the design, the trades and the project management, so you always know who to call. We work across Melbourne and surrounding parts of Victoria, from single-room updates to projects that cover more than one room.

This page is where our project case studies will live. Until they are published, it explains what a renovation project involves, the types of work we take on and how to plan your own. You can read more about Pacific Edge Homes or see the areas we service.

A general guide

What a renovation project usually involves

Every home is different, but most kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovations move through the same stages. This is a general overview of the process, not a description of a particular job.

01

Understanding the existing space

Measuring the room and looking at what is already there: plumbing and drainage points, electrical, walls and floors, and anything that limits what can move.

02

Planning the renovation

Agreeing what the room needs to do, then working through the layout, the scope of work and what will change and what will stay.

03

Selecting finishes and materials

Choosing cabinetry, benchtops, tiles, flooring, fixtures and fittings that suit the room, how it is used and the budget.

04

Coordinating the trades

Scheduling the trades in the right order, so work such as plumbing, electrical, waterproofing and tiling happens in sequence.

05

Managing the work on site

Keeping the job on track day to day, checking quality as each stage is finished and keeping the homeowner informed.

06

Completing the finishing details

Sealing, trims, silicone, hardware and fit-off: the small details that decide how finished a room looks and how well it lasts.

07

Final handover

Walking through the finished room with the homeowner and checking that everything has been completed as agreed.

How to plan a renovation project

A little planning before you ask for a quote makes the whole project easier. These steps apply whether you are renovating a kitchen, a bathroom, a laundry or replacing a floor.

  • 1. Define the renovation scope

Start with which rooms or areas need work, and whether it is one room, several rooms or a specialist job such as new flooring or retiling.

  • 2. Decide your priorities

Think about what matters most: how the room functions, storage, the layout, the finishes, and practical needs such as cleaning, access or a growing family.

  • 3. Understand the work involved

Different renovations involve different trades and requirements. A bathroom, for example, usually involves plumbing, electrical, waterproofing and tiling in a set order, while a timber floor depends on the condition of the subfloor.

  • 4. Plan materials and finishes

Flooring, tiling, cabinetry, benchtops, fixtures and fittings all affect how the room looks, how it wears and what the work involves, so it helps to consider them early.

  • 5. Talk the project through

Before requesting a quote, it helps to explain what you want to change, what is not working now and where the property is. That makes the first conversation much more useful.
